Assessments

WHAT IS?

Assessment is the process of collecting reliable and valid information with the help of standardized tools to integrate and comprehend something before coming to a decision. It is the process of measuring communicative behaviours of interest. Ultimately, all initial clinical decisions are based on information derived from an assessment process.

WHY IT IS IMPORTANT?

Our team uses assessment information to:

  • Make professional diagnoses and conclusions.
  • Identify the need for referral to other professionals.
  • Identify the need for intervention.
  • Determine the focus of intervention.
  • Determine the frequency and length of intervention, and
  • Make decisions about the structure of intervention (e.g., individual versus group sessions, intervention with or without caregiver involvement).

WHAT DO WE USE?

  • Communication DEALL: Tailored intervention program for individuals with communication challenges, emphasizing social interaction and language development.
  • Language Processing Test (LPT 3): Evaluates various aspects of language processing including auditory comprehension, expressive language, and phonological awareness.
  • Test for Examining Expressive Morphology (TEEM): Assesses the ability to produce grammatically correct sentences and use of morphological structures.
  • (REEL-3) Receptive-Expressive Emergent Language Test, Third Edition: Measures early language skills including receptive and expressive vocabulary, syntax, and morphology in young children.
  • M-CHAT-R (Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers, Revised): Screens for early signs of autism spectrum disorder in toddlers aged 16 to 30 months.
  • Stuttering Severity Instrument: Quantifies the severity of stuttering behaviors based on frequency and duration of disfluencies.
  • CELF 3: Evaluates language skills in children aged 6 to 21 years, including receptive and expressive language abilities.
  • CELF 5: Assesses language comprehension and expression in children and adolescents aged 5 to 21 years, covering various language domains.
  • Developmental Test of Visual Perception: Measures visual perception skills including visual discrimination, spatial relationships, and visual-motor integration in children and adults.
